Course aims
To deepen knowledge of depicting the human figure and consolidate the related skills through practical studio work; to develop the ability to find, develop and visually express creative ideas, analyse their cultural context and cultivate critical, creative and reflective thinking; and to support an understanding of visual art as a way of modelling the world and applying this knowledge in one’s own practice.
Brief description of the course
The course combines figure drawing, painting and creative project development. Students study the constructive structure of the figure, basic plastic anatomy, male and female nude drawing, proportion, dynamics, detail and spatial placement. In painting they work with colour modelling, contrast, lighting situations, colour palette and mood, including portrait and figure painting in different techniques. In creative work and composition they develop and analyse ideas, explore communication with the viewer and complete a sample creative/design process from idea formulation to technical solution. Independent work includes figure and portrait studies, drawing and painting tasks, and reflection.
