Course aims
To teach the characteristics of glass as a material and skills in various techniques and ways of using it.
Brief description of the course
History of glass art. Trends in glass art. Characteristics of glass. Techniques in glass art. Melted painting. Painting on sheet glass. Pate de verre. Relationships of graphics and panel painting and glass painting. Using a mixed technique of glass painting and melting for the term work.Two groups are formed after the two-week lecture cycle. Various techniques are learned in practical classes. Analysis of drafts for the term work at the end of each class. Students try out various technologies and with consult with the teacher to find a suitable solution for a composition.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
To learn about various stages in the history of glass art; to learn about different techniques; to be able to use various melting techniques; to be able to evaluate and distinguish between gasses with different optical and chemical characteristics for making compositions; to be able to finish and complete a glass composition.
