Course aims
The course aims to provide upper-intermediate Japanese language skills in all areas (kanji characters and writing, reading, speaking, listening, grammar).
Brief description of the course
During the course, students will learn complex grammatical expressions appropriate to the level and also when and how to use the expressions. They will learn 180 kanji characters and also words made up of combinations of those and use the other kanji they have learned so far. The student will be able to discuss topics related to Japanese society and culture, make presentations and write papers or reports in Japanese. The student will also learn how to use the Japanese writing form "genkō-yōshi" according to the rules of horizontal writing (yokogaki).

Students are expected to actively participate in language lessons and to complete all homework assignments on time.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows about 1000 kanji characters (including A1, A2 and B1 kanji characters) and is able to use the vocabulary related to these characters;
- understands and is able to compose complex sentences using grammatical expressions and vocabulary learned during classes;
- is able to read and understand complicated texts and to answer the questions;
- is able to write an essay on familiar topic and to make a simple presentation in Japanese;
- can format and present a slide presentation in Japanese;
- make a simple presentation in Japanese on a given and prepared topic;
- is able to write a Japanese-style retelling (anshōbun) of a short text using Japanese draft paper (genkō-yōshi), in horizontal writing (yokogaki);
- is able to translate from Estonian into Japanese and vice versa lengthy and complex sentences, using grammatical expressions and vocabulary learned during classes;
- is able to discuss on familiar topics.
