Course aims
The course aims to provide intermediate Japanese language skills in all areas (kanji characters and writing, reading, speaking, listening, grammar).
Brief description of the course
During the course students will read and translate various texts on Japanese society and culture. Students will write two essays on a given topic using grammatical expressions and vocabulary learned during classes. Students learn to use the phonetic and Chinese characters dictionaries. They will learn 143 new Chinese characters and the usage of vocabulary related to these characters. Students will also learn how to express their opinions and the pros and cons of the arguments on various topics. The students are expected to actively participate in all language classes and do their homework by the deadline.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows 800 Chinese characters and is able to use the vocabulary related to these characters;
- understands and is able to compose lengthy and complex phrases using grammatical expressions and vocabulary learned during classes;
- is able to read long texts and write essays on a given topic;
- is able to translate from Estonian into Japanese and vice versa long and complex sentences using vocabulary and grammatical expressions learned during classes;
- is able to talk on familiar topics and express his opinion, using appropriate grammatical expressions and vocabulary.
