Course aims

The aim is to give an overview of Estonian literature since its beginning until the middle of the 20th century and to improve student’s ability to analyse different texts from different eras.

Brief description of the course

In lectures principal developments in Estonian literature since its beginning until the middle of the 20th century will be discussed. Every decade’s (e.g. 1920s, 1930s) poetry, prose and drama is under observation. In seminars fictional texts are discussed. Students read independently obligatory reading.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
Student orientates in principal developments and concepts of Estonian literature.
Student knows principal authors and works of the period under observation.
Student is able to analyse fictional texts independently.
