Course aims

Introduce the importance, history and modern of lexicography. Develope the skills of using different sources of lexicon. Introduce the importance of the language technology in creating vocabularies.

Brief description of the course

Main concepts and terms of lexicography. Methods and different approaches. Typology of vocabularies. Compiling of vocabularies. Theoretical and practical lexicography. History of lexicography. Estonian lexicography. Web-based ressources. Electronical vocabularies and data-bases of Estonian language.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- is familiar with main concepts and terms of lexicography, language technology and corpus-linguistics.
- has an overview of main principles of compiling vocabularies and applications of modern lexicography.
- is familiar with electronical vocabularies and data-bases of Estonian language and can to use them.
