Course aims

To give an introductory survey of the main concepts, sources and methods of ethnology and an overview of traditional Estonian folk culture.

Brief description of the course

Ethnology in the world and in Estonia. Traditional Estonian peasant culture: way of life, milieu, social structure, religion, folk art. Everyday culture in contemporary society, respective methods. Consumption, advertising, fashion, domestic culture. National culture and national identity in the modern world.
