Course aims
Create opportunities to acquire knowledge of the general characteristics of human evolution process.
Support the formation of knowledge that human potential of development is genetically determined and the development of human life quality is affected by the environment.
Create the conditions for getting an overview of all the biological processes in human life.
Brief description of the course
The stages of human ontogenesis, the major factors affecting it. Genetic determination of human development. The gene pool and the environment. The appearance of inherited characteristics, the dependence on the environment. The impact of teaching and education on the development of individual characteristics, the perception of the unique character of an individual.
Human development from conception to birth. Fertilization, differentiation of cells and tissues, the formation of different human systems. The effects of teratogens on human development, critical phases. Sustainability and transformation of the biological status of a human organism during its life cycle.
Independent work: compiling a term paper, preparing and making a presentation, preparing for seminars and test papers based on the previously delivered revision questions.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows the causes and major trends of the development taking place in the course of a person` s life;
- can perceive the genetic and environmental factors determining and causing the human development;
- is able to apply the acquired knowledge of Evolutionary Biology to the professional activities of a teacher (communication with students, teachers and parents).
