Course aims
To give students knowledge about health care and skills to administer first-aid and resuscitation in emergencies.
Brief description of the course
Professional health and work safety. Professional diseases and accidents.Work environment.Physiological, psychological and biological health s risk factors.Health care.Health care organisatsion and health economics.Correct succession of practical steps in the event of a severe accident. Life threatening bleeding, control of blood loss. Causes of unconsciousness and their quick assessment. Resuscitation. First aid for suffocation, fainting and shock, wounds, electrical injuries, burns, poisoning, chemical burns, fractures, sprains, dislocations, bruises, effects of extremes of temperature (heat, frost), sudden child birth. Teaching of bandaging. Carrying and transport of victims. Psychological first aid.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has knowledge of biological bases of aging processes and main directions of changes taking place in human organism in that connection;
- is knowledgeable of age-related changes in various organic systems and related to it decline of functional potentiality;
- is able to employ optimal physical load in accordance with age-related changes in the operations of organic systems.
