Course aims
Introduce theoretical and practical concepts of sport and exercise psychology, which are important for (a) getting performance advantage in competitive sports and (b) maintaining healthy attitudes towards lifelong physical activity.
Brief description of the course
The course gives an overview of sport and exercise psychology as a discipline and its main theoretical concepts. More in-depth knowledge will be acquired in regards to the main practical implications, both within competitive sports and field of exercising. Within the course students will have an opportunity to try out the main mental training techniques. Finally, the course will give an overview of social psychology in sports, looking more specifically into group processes and coaches’ leadership styles.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has an overview of the main topics that sport and exercise psychology deals with;
- is capable to analyze personal performance (be it in sports, academic or work field);
- can implement acquired knowledge for benefits of personal performance.
- understands the mental side of performance, knows the main theoretical considerations and practical applications of the field.
