Course aims
To create opportunities of development of theoretical and practical knowledge and skills about adventure activities with purpose to organize meaningful active leisure. To support evaluation of about market potential and the ability to analyze the conditions related to
purposeful adventure applications. To create preconditions to be able to plan adventure activities and analyze adventure experience.
Brief description of the course
Defining the outdoor recreation sector, application of adventure activities, relationship with other areas of recreation.
Distinctive features of adventure experience. Historical perspectives of adventure experiences and its role in recreation management. Theoretical frameworks related to adventure experience. Objectives of adventure programming and methodological principles. Areas of application in Estonia, market potential and opportunities.
Practicums – participating adventure activities. Seminars – reflecting the experiences from practicum based on theoretical knowledge.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows specificity of adventure experience and interaction with other areas of recreation;
- has knowledge of main theoretical frameworks and methodological principles of adventure experience and activities;
- recognizes opportunities of adventure based services in Estonia;
- is able to choose and plan proper level of adventure activity for specific target group;
- is able to analyze adventure experiences on personal and group level
