Course aims
To create the basis for a holistic view of physical education (PE) in schools as a subject and the teaching of it to pupils with different abilities and motivation;
To support the acquisition of the knowledge and skills needed for school practice;
Support the development of teaching competencies and professional role models.
Brief description of the course
Documents regulating PE in schools. Objectives, content, methods and forms of PE for different age groups pupils.
Planning of PE. Integration of PE with other subjects. Physical activity for pupils with special educational needs. Guiding pupils' interest in learning, supporting their intrinsic motivation, helping them to set goals and analyze learning outcomes. Learning outcomes and assessment in PE. PE in Estonia and other countries.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- gains knowledge of PE in schools, its organizational basis the teaching of PE to different age groups pupils, taking into account support for learner motivation and learner differences;
- knows how to plan the learning process in PE;
- can analyze their own and their pupils' performance in PE lessons;
- is able to explain the effects and benefits of physical exercise to students;
- knows different teaching methods and how to prevent dangerous situations.
