Course aims

This course aims to introduce students to quantitative data collection and data analysis methods, particularly as applied in the field of sport, recreation and physical education.

Brief description of the course

Quantitative paradigm.Hypothesis. Experiment and observation. The population, sample parameters and statisticians. Research design. Statistical analysis, accuracy. Reliability, validity - components. Reality and bias. Main factors influencing results of an experiment. Dependent, independent, interfering variables. Types of experiments, notation.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to identify and understand main concepts in the quantitative research process;
- makes distinctions between the differences in quantitative and qualitative research methods;
- writes a report on experiment;
- os able to identify main data collection and data analysis methods in quantitative research;
- designs qualitative research studies.
