Course aims
Provides an insight into the main needs and problems of rehabilitation work.To create a complete picture of rehabilitation related fields and methods.
Brief description of the course
Principles and objectives of rehabilitation work, concepts, need. Overview of commonly used rehabilitation services in Estonia, different interventions (counseling, individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy).
Services offered by rehabilitation agencies. Apppliance as a tool to provide care. Occupational therapy, speech therapy, special educational rehabilitation therapy, music therapy, art therapy, sand therapy, literature therapy, psychotherapy, physiotherapy. Therapies as rehabilitation opportunities and/or needs. Social, medical and educational rehabilitation activity
Learning process as a rehabilitation opportunity and/or need. Practical skills for working with children at different ages (observing children, assessment of the status, main ways for intervention).
Independent work: elaborating the literature, analysis of training visits, report on a selected topic (one of the rehabilitation methods), a portfolio, self-analysis based on the learning outcomes of the subject.

• Knows the nature and subdivisions of the special needs, personality differences, and guided by the basic knowledge orientate in the field of rehabilitation activity
• Understands the specialities of the children with special needs and the need to integrate the child with special needs to the nursery
• Is able to specify and recommend the best environment for a child with special needs based on self-development capability
• Is able to direct parents/caretakers to find the best form of cooperation with the aim to develop a child with special needs
• Can initiate teamwork to guide, develop and teach a child/adolescent with special needs in an environment suitable for him/her
