Course aims
To create opportunities for employing theoretical knowledge in practice while working with small children, combine practical experience with theoretical knowledge.
To support students in forming the skills for organising age- and development-specific learning and educational activities in kindergarten.
To support students’ abilities to reflect his/her professional development and the visions of his/her professional roles.
Brief description of the course
The student works in the group of small children under the group teacher’s supervision.
Their activities are based on the national curriculum for pre-school educational establishments, year plan and curriculum of the kindergarten, activity plan of the group. Physical environment of the group is observed and its safety is analysed. Students take an active part in forming learning and educational process of 1-3-year-old children, emphasis being on children’s everyday routine and games (games of 1-3-year-old children, toys, playing. The importance of game and everyday routine in learning and educational process) and also on their individuality. Students participate in group’s teamwork and communicate with parents

Upon completing the course the student:
After the course the student:
• Knows the principles of planning and conducting learning and educational activities in nursery group (plans and conducts everyday routine in the group, using playful methods; conducts the learning process of 1-3-year-old children according to the previously prepared plan)
• Can supervise and analyse children’s games (indoors and outdoors), chooses appropriate games and toys for them. Can analyse children’s educational environment.
• Analyses and evaluates the level of his/her theoretical knowledge and practical skills..
