Course aims
Give an overview of the principles of Estonian legal system and the role of child protection in it, also about legal regulation of the family and the place of children’s rights and duties in different norms, provide knowledge for the development of basic principles for solving cases and create preconditions for solving cases independently.
Brief description of the course
The course provides an overview of legislation adopted in Estonia in the field of child protection and also international agreements and conventions. Students obtain basic knowledge of the methodology of solving cases.
Family law is studied with the realisation of child and parent legal relationship and parents’ rights and duties.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to orient in the legislation of the subject area, find necessary information from norms and court decisions.
- has knowledge and skills for solving cases, they are able to describe the main problems and find optimal solutions taking into account the interest of the child;
- can prepare independent work in a selected topic outlining the most important problems;
- makes own suggestions about the possible resolution of the situation or analyses on the basis of personal experience the norms in a specific field.
