Course aims
To acquire knowledge about the brain-mind relationships. Understanding of the principles of neuropsychological examination. Understanding of the principles of neuropsychological analysis of the mental processes.
Brief description of the course
Neuropsychology: history, applications, methods. Higher psychological functions (HPF), the concept of the systemic dynamic localization of the HPF. Three functional blocks. Aphasia. Role of subcortical structures in mental activity. The idea of „lower“ psychic functions. Frontal lobe. Functional asymmetry. Dynamic localization of psychological processes. Neuropsychological development. Corpus callosum, gender differences. Recovery from brain damage. Inhibitory processes in mental activity.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows the relationships between the brain and the psyche
- is able to describe the principles of neuropsychological research;
- is able to analyze the neuropsychological mechanisms of psychic processes.
