Course aims
To support the development of research oriented approach in education; to develop the ability to formulate research questions, to choose appropriate research strategies and to carry out the research study and to formulate it’s results.
Brief description of the course
Master's thesis is an independent research or development project in the field of subject-based, pedagogical or applied mathematics. Master's thesis requires an acquaintance with the scientific literature, theories and methodology of the chosen field of research. Master's thesis assesses the student's skills in choosing a topic, setting a goal and scientific problem and / or hypothesis, choosing and applying research methods, collecting and analyzing data, using professional literature and evaluating existing theories and research, solving independent and original conclusions, and in presentation of results. Presentation of results obtained.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- conducts the planned study based on previously formulated research questions, the theoretical framework, research ethics requirements, and the research design;
- collects and analyzes research data using appropriate methods and instruments, and formulates well-argued conclusions based on the research questions;
- formats the final thesis in accordance with the university’s and the institute’s requirements;
- presents and defends the aims, methodology, and results of their research in the format of an academic defense.
