To acquire basic knowledge about the methods for solving equations and inequalities. To inform future teachers about the systematisation of mathematical problems and to provide them with experience in solving problems of a higher difficulty level.
Students have solid foundation of mathematical knowledge for teaching school mathematics in the area of exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions, equations, systems of equations and inequalities.
Brief description of the course
Exponent, logarithmic and trigonometric functions, the utilisation of their properties in problem solving. Similarity transformations of transcendental expressions. Transcendental equations and inequalities and their systems: trigonometric, exponent and logarithmic equations (inequalities).
Learning outcomes in the course
Student teachers have a deep and broad knowledge of the concepts, principles, techniques, and reasoning methods of mathematics in the listed areas, and they are ready to use this knowledge to inform curricular goals and shape their instruction and assessment. Their knowledge encompasses not only the details, rules, and procedures of mathematics, but also the larger themes and connecting ideas that tie together its various strands.
Pass- fail assessment is based on home assignments and three in-class tests.
