Course aims

General subject. The aim of this course is:

To provide an overview of the following concepts: vector, frame, equations of straight lines and planes, quadratic curves, quadratic surfaces.

Brief description of the course

The topics of this course are: Directed line segment and vector. Linear operations with vectors. Scalar product, cross product and triple product of vectors. Basis, frame, coordinates, formulas for transformation of coordinates when frame is translated or rotated. Equations of straight lines on the plane. Transition from one type of equation to other type. Equations of straight lines and planes in three-dimensional space. Reciprocal positions of lines and planes. Polar coordinates. Quadratic curves and their canonical equations. Directrices of ellipse, hyperbola and parabola. Quadratic surfaces and their canonical equations.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:

- knows main concepts of analytic geometry;

- is familiar with main properties and theorems of the course;

- is able to solve the standard exercises of anlytic geometry.
