Course aims
General subject. To provide an overview of the main concepts of algebra, geometry and differential equations and their applications. Use of main methods of algebra, geometry and differential equations.
Brief description of the course
Determinants, matrices and linear systems of equations. Vectors. Linear operations with vectors. Scalar, vector and mixed product of vectors. The main problems in plane geometry. Equations of lines and circles in a plane. Polar co-ordinates. The main problems in space geometry. Lines and planes in space, and their equations. Quadratic curves: ellipse, hyperbola, and parabola. Applications. Differential equations, numerical methods for initial value problems. Harmonic oscillators. Second-order linear equations with constant coefficients.

Assessment methods
Homework and two class-tests. The exam contains two theoretical questions and one practical one.
