Course aims
To introduce the student to the notion of physical research and the methodological principles of experimental and theoretical physics. To explore connections between physics as science and physics as a subject of study and connections between physics and other natural sciences. To search and systematise information, using the language and logic of physics.
Brief description of the course
During the course an overview of the methodological basics of experimental and theoretical physics will be given. The place of physics in the system of knowledge will be discussed. An overview of the history of physics as science and physics as a subject of study will be given. Lectures will interchange with seminars in the computer laboratory where various physical phenomena will be investigated using computer simulations, and methods for using the Internet as a source of knowledge will be studied.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has knowledge of the ways of getting an understanding of physics, from the theory and experiment;
- has ability to carry out physics experiments with a basic analysis of data with graphs;
- has ability to analyze the test results and compare them with the theoretical results;
- has ability to apply computer programs in computing.
