Course aims

Elective. Overview of environmental education and its subject and methods. Education for sustainable development. Thematic background for student teachers.

Brief description of the course

Overview of the environment and its influence on human society. Relationships between man and nature. Ecological thinking. Biodiversity. Nature and ecosystem protection. Global problems and possible ways of solving them. Sustainable development and society. Assessing methods of sustainability. Systematic disquisition about theory of environmental education. Overview of the aims, curricula, programmes, learning and teaching forms and methods in environmental education. Environmental education in different groups within the national population.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- has the knowledge of environmental conceptions;
- is aware of and understands the environmental problems facing the community and, in case of need, participates actively in solving these problems;
- knows the methods and subjects of environmental studies and is capable of applying them in the future in teaching the subject The Environment and Sustainable Development within the frames of national curriculum.
