Course aims
To create an opportunity to get an overview of the historical development and modern uses of different types of lace.
To support the acquisition and consolidation of technological skills and theoretical knowledge in the process of practical tasks, and to create preconditions for the application of the acquired skills and knowledge in designing/producing creative works.
Brief description of the course
Historical overview of different types of lace. Selecting materials and tools. Basic knowledge about bobbin lace, Filet lace, Sol lace, shuttle lace and knotted lace (macramé). Basic terminology and techniques. Opportunities to design and create lace surfaces by means of different techniques. Skills in interpreting patterns and designs.
In order to acquire theoretical knowledge and develop technological skills, students design and produce a small creative object.
E-learning materials and independent tasks accessible in the Moodle-environment support the development and consolidation of knowledge and skills.
The course teaches by means of performing practical tasks.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has a systematic overview of the topic of lace;
- is able to purposefully use relevant tools and materials, and correct technological methods and terminology;
- can correctly and creatively apply the acquired technological skills and theoretical knowledge.
