Course aims
To develop skills of design that are free and creative in the students own area of specialisation, to develop an ability to associate a creative idea with practical solutions and use presentation graphics in the design.
Brief description of the course
The principles of selecting and matching textiles and craft materials. Textiles in clothing and interior design. The principles of compiling sets and collections from the given materials and drawing up a design. Planning joint practical works in schools of general education. Designing practical items and methods of adding value in various textile technologies. Estonian ethnographic costume in contemporary fashion. Designing sets of clothes based on ethnographic material. Ethnography of other nationalities: various sources of material and inspiration in shaping the contemporary material environment. The principles of designing exhibitions, workshop stands and other displays.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has skills to design different handicraft items to be realised in concrete techniques and materials;
- has skills to present the own designing ideas in the form of finished project drawing;
- has ability to compose entire collections;
- has knowledge about the sources and possibilities of gathering the original design images;
- has skills to manage with the design problems creatively and with individuality.
