Course aims

To enable understanding of the continuous development of culture and art from the 19th century to the early decades of the 20th century.

Brief description of the course

Romanticism. Realism. Symbolism. Impressionism. Post-impressionism. Art trends in the 20th century (cubism, futurism, expressionism, surrealism, and others).

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
To be able to see and analyse pictures and architecture; to be able to understand the role of art in the development of society; to be able to understand the historic development of culture.
