Course aims
Aim of the course is for the students to be able to find topics for newsstories, communicate with people involved with the news; using the knowledge gathered during prerequisite courses to write quickly understandable and well focused newsstories.
Brief description of the course
There will be 8 study days with lectures and seminars. During that time students must hand in 7 themeplans and 7 newsstories (2000-2200 characters) written according to the plans.
Themeplan describes finding valuable topic for news, its focus, possible sources and illustrative possibilities. Themeplan must be formulated correctly, and taken to class on paper. Lecturers will evaluate the plans.
Deadline for newsstories is the same study day at 18 o'clock, unless lecturer has extended the deadline. Newsstories must be uploaded in Moodle.
Every study day has different topic (f.e education) which will be same for all students, the focus and realization will be individual. Topic and the description of the task will be uploaded in Moodle on Wednesdays (previous week).
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Students know how to use in practice the terms they had learned during prerequisite courses.
Students are able to find valuable topics; find both oral and written sources, and communicate with them; write substantially, grammatically and technically correct newsstories which would qualify to be published in any Estonian daily newspaper.
