Course aims
The course belongs to the subjects of the class teacher curriculum. The course is a compulsory continuation to an elective „Music studies in forms 1-3“. As a result of the course the students will have knowledge and skills using different instruments in music studies. A readiness to use the means of playing an instrument in music studies as well as to teach the pupils basic skills and means of playing a melodic instrument (small Estonian zither, soundboard instruments, recorder).
Brief description of the course
About the importance of playing an instrument and its psychological influence on the process of music studies. A skill to play an instrument as an indicator of music teacher’s professionalism. Playing an instrument to support and vary a teaching process. Playing an instrument as an independent and accompanying activity. Playing an instrument in different musical activities (singing, musical-rhythmical movements, listening to music, creating and presenting music).
Teaching an instrument in the syllabys Music. Playing an instrument as a means to form and develop pupil’s musical and timbre hearing, musical memory, attention and concentration abilities, fine motorics and social skills. Classification of instruments (rhythmical and melodic instruments). Teaching and guiding playing an instrument.
Opportunities of playing an instrument to develop pupil’s creativity, activeness and stage courage. Principles of developing the skills of accompaniment (creating and presenting co-playing with songs, co-playing in a group and orchestra etc.).
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has knowledge and skills in the learned melodic instruments: piano or a guitar, small Estonian zither, soundboard instruments (xylophone, metallophone, orchectral bells) and a recorder;
- can use different means of facture and harmony in presenting and accompanying songs;
- can choose and use instrumental skills in different musical activities;
- can use playing an instrument to vary a learning process;
- interpretes the implementation skills of musical and play activities in a learning process;
- has knowledge of the importance of play in child’s development and of opportunities to support the child through play;
- can teach initial means of playing an intrument on simpler instruments (soundboard instruments, small Estonian zither and a recorder).
