Course aims
The objective of the course is to create grounds for acquiring knowledge of possibilities to teach and educate in multicultural learning environment and skills to do that.
Brief description of the course
Concepts connected with multiculturalism.
Checking test. Culture and identity. Differences between cultures. Cultural stereotypes. Culture as invitation to a sociocultural.dialogue. Intercultural communication at school and in the society. Education as dialogue. Development stages of integration paradigmas in Estonia. Strategies of teaching in a multicultural form (equal rights to good education: theory and reality).
Seminar: comparing analysis of the development of stages of contemporary integration paradigma.
National and international, value of education and the reflection of educating values in study literature. Art and music as metalanguage of communication.
Seminar: analysis of study literature proceeding from multicultural study environment.
Preparation of the teacher and formation of social attitudes. Value of educating values in multicultural teaching environment. Priorities and principles of the curriculum.
General advice for teaching in a multicultural form.
Group work:Introduction of representatives of different nations.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to assess values, needs and problems of a multicultural form/group;
- is able to work and teach in a multicultural form;
- is able to analyse problematic teaching situations and find relevant solutions.
