Course aims

To create prerequisites for obtaining knowledge on formation of methodical basics for creating information system. Analyzing present situation for planning and creating new information system, choosing appropriate software, language, environment and other assets.

Brief description of the course

Principles of information systems in organization. Designing of information system according to strategy, purposes, and information needs of organization. Fundamental concepts, including the life cycle of information systems, projects, project management, project documentation. Classical stages of information system´s development, content and documentation. Modelling, different types of models. Data flow diagram, process diagram etc. Alternative processes and methods of developing an information system. Development of information systems, modern development methods. Budgeting and economic efficiency of information system. Request for proposal on an information system, it´s structure proposal analysis. Information technology (IT) development practice in Estonia. Good practice in IT projects. Information systems based on web. User interface, requirements of UIG. Information architecture. Information system´s audit. Legal framework. Principle of Estonian standards EVS-ISO/IEC 12207:1998. Examples of information systems, case studies. Practical assignments, group works.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- knows the principles of compiling and managing information systems;
- is familiar with methods of project management in IT;
- knows and could adopt development methodology of information systems;
- knows the principles and techniques of modelling, is familiar with modelling languages, different types of models;
- is familiar with designing of user interface (UIG requirements);
- knows the documentation and legislation regarding information systems development;
- is able to compile and realize information systems according to purposes of organization, knows relevant software and tools.

Seminarides osalemine on kohustuslik. Infosüsteemi projekt tuleb esitada 1 nädal enne eksamit. Praktilised ja iseseisvad tööd tuleb esitada tähtaegselt iganädalaselt.
