Course aims
The course aims to:
- provide an overview of the principles for designing audiovisual assets for digital games;
- introduce the key considerations in designing game promotional materials;
- equip students with the practical experience of creating original game assets and integrating them into a short finished game.
Brief description of the course
The concept of game assets. Asset design in the game development process.
Game storytelling: plot and world-building. Aesthetic styles: style book, color palette, atmosphere, aesthetic emotions.
Character design: story-driven and art-driven approaches. Emotive aspects of character design.
Game environment planning and design.
Low- and high-fidelity prototyping.
Sound design and game music.
Game promotional materials. Poster design. Game trailer.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has an overview of what game assets are and how they are produced;
- is able to locate the necessary resources to master specific asset creation tools;
- has an understanding of the conceptual principles underlying the design of audiovisual assets in games;
- is able to create game original assets and integrate them into a playable game.
