Course aims
The aim of the course is to provide an overview of the fundamentals of prototyping, focusing on software prototyping and especially on creating user interfaces. The course introduces prototyping methods, tools, and best practices that enable students to create functional and testable prototypes.
Brief description of the course
Prototyping in software development, the role of prototyping in the software development process. The purpose and benefits of a prototype. Different prototyping techniques. Levels of prototyping. Prototyping tools. Interactive prototypes and animations. User testing and feedback collection. Documenting and presenting prototypes.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to explain the role of prototyping in the software development cycle;
- has basic proficiency in using various prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD);
- is capable of designing and creating prototypes with a user-centered approach;
- is able to distinguish between different levels of prototyping and explain their uses;
- is able to plan and conduct user interface testing and gather feedback from users;
- knows how to apply the principles of user interface design and ensure usability.
