Course aims
To show different approaches from sociology, cultural studies, psychology, semiotics and social networks as possibilities to perceive identities on different levels.
Brief description of the course
The post-modern version of modernity creates a super-saturation of signs, in which, in order to orientate, one needs to interconnect with self and the surroundings. One of the results of this process is multiple identification, that will be systematically addressed during this course. A wide spectrum of identities will be questions from gender, nationality, ethnicity, geographical, cultural and political identities to cosmopolitan, virtual and cyber-space ones. The symbolic as well as practice-effect impacts will be distinguished and their place in globality addressed. In addition, the possible feedback of these formations into the dynamic structure of globality will be considered.
