Brief description of the course
The seminar supports the planning and writing of the bachelor’s thesis, focusing on the formulation of a research question, the structure of the thesis, theoretical approaches, working with scholarly literature, and academic writing in anthropology. Through seminars, staged writing assignments, and peer feedback, students develop their research projects and prepare a research proposal, literature review, and work plan. The course emphasises reflection on the writing process, the provision of well-reasoned feedback, and the gradual development of the research project in a guided seminar format.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- formulates a research question grounded in anthropology and justifies its relevance based on disciplinary literature and the broader social context;
- identifies and uses disciplinary literature and other research materials, critically evaluating their academic validity and reliability and adhering to principles of academic referencing;
- designs an anthropological research project, justifying theoretical approaches, methodological choices, and methods of data collection, and applying principles of research ethics;
- develops their written research project in stages, using feedback and reflecting on the writing process;
- provides constructive written and oral feedback on other students’ research projects, taking into account the research objectives, specific characteristics, and areas for development;
- independently plans and manages the research process, taking into account ethical and practical aspects of research.
