Brief description of the course

The course focuses on the close reading and interpretation of anthropological texts and on developing written analysis and argumentation. Through seminars, discussions, and staged writing assignments, students learn to examine the structure of anthropological texts, the use of ethnographic examples, and key modes of interpretation, while developing their own written analysis. The course addresses the distinctive features of anthropological and ethnographic writing and employs different analytical and writing practices in the interpretation of texts.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- interprets theoretical and ethnographic texts in anthropology, analysing the examples, approaches, and arguments used in the selected texts;
- uses anthropological concepts, scholarly literature, and empirical material in developing a written analysis, critically evaluating the reliability of sources and arguments;
- develops their written analysis in stages, using feedback and reflecting on the writing process;
- critically uses different analytical and writing tools, including AI-based tools, in the interpretation and analysis of texts.
