Course aims
Ability to understand the place of francophonic postcolonial literatures in the frames of the world literature, their relations with the metropol and the complicated cultural problematics of acculturation
Brief description of the course
Universalism and relativism in the relations with cultural „other“. The ideology of colonialism (Pierre Loti). Postcolonial literary theory. Multiculturalism, acculuration, hybridity. Maghreb’s literature. T. ben Jelloun, A. Memmi. M. Dib. Etc. Black Africa’s literature. A. Césaire. L.S. Senghor. Negritude.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has knowledge about the main problems of colonial and postcolonial literature in the context of acculturation
- has ability to analyse literary works with the methods of contemporary postcolonial theory;
- has capacity to link the above mentioned questions with religious, ideological and cultural multiplicity in contemporary world.
