Course aims

Teacher training subject. An overview of the national curriculum requirements for English instruction at upper-secondary school level. Ability to foster student motivation, plan the teaching process, select appropriate methods and assess student progress.

Brief description of the course

Teaching vocabulary and grammar as well as reinforcing the speaking, reading and writing skills at upper secondary school level. Developing the communicative competence. Mixed ability and mixed level classroom requirements. Patterns of classroom interaction (individual, pair, group work and whole class activities). Student error analysis and testing techniques. Analysis of the essence of the national exam requirements in English. An overview of teaching materials available at upper secondary school level, textbook evaluation criteria.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- has knowledge to plan and execute EFL lessons at upper secondary school level;
- has ability to motivate pupils and assess learner achievement;
- has skills to select appropriate teaching methods and develop course materials.
