Course aims

The course aims at introducing important developments and encouraging discussions concerning Finnish society and culture or/and Finnish language, developing critical reading of theoretical sources and the ability of conducting independent research.

Brief description of the course

The seminar seeks to analyse selected topics on Finnish society, culture and language, deepen the ability in text- and cultural analysis.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- has knowledge on selected topics of Finnish culture and/or language, has ability to conduct text analysis and interpret cultural context;
- understands the position of Finnish culture and/or language in the European context;
- has knowledge of culture and/or linguistic terminology in Finnish;
- is motivated for further research.
