Course aims
To deepen knowledge of Finno-Ugric People culture and literature, the main authors and works; to introduce etnofuturism and postcolonial approach to the literatures of Finno-Ugric people; to develop skills to understand and analyze important events of Finno-Ugric cultures and literatures and relate these to the development of literary languages of Finno-Ugric people.
Brief description of the course
An overview of similarities of Finno-Ugric People cultures and literatures, focusing on literatures of Karelia, Komi, Udmurt, Mari El, Mordovia, Khanty,Mansi, Nenets, their history and originality. Short overview of literaturesof Liv, Vepsian and Ostyak as well as of Finno-Ugric nations with minimale literary traditsions; introducing the research on Finno-Ugric cultures and literatures, literary contacts and translations, etnofuturism and postcolonial approach to the Finno-Ugric literatures.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has in-depth knowledge on the Finno-Ugric literary and cultural history, the main authors and literary works;
- is familiar with the etnofuturism and postcolonial approach to the literatures of Finno-Ugric people;
- understands of Finno-Ugric cultures and literatures in historical and social-political context.
