Brief description of the course

Students learn theoretical concepts and categories used in the analysis of poetry, prose and drama, and apply them in the practical analysis of literary texts.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- understands the concepts of poetry and lyric, prose and narrative, drama and dramatic literature, identifies and defines the major genres of poetry, prose and drama;
- recognises the principal levels and categories of literary analysis in poetry, prose and drama, explains the concepts and terminology used in literary analysis;
- applies analytical categories and theoretical concepts independently and appropriately in the interpretation of literary texts;
- produces interpretations of literary works based on textual analysis;
- presents analytical observations in a well-argued and linguistically accurate oral and written form.
