Course aims
To give students systematic and up-to-date knowledge about Estonian literature in the second half of the 20th century, also in the beginning of the 21st century. To develop the ability to work independently with literary and literary historical texts of different periods. To provide students with practical experience how to analyse literary and literary historical texts.
Brief description of the course
The main problems of Estonian literature in the second half of the 20th
century: periodization; the problems of socialist realism; realism, modernism, postmodernism. Estonian literature in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s: social and historical context, literary life, poetry, prose, drama, essays.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has acquired systematic knowledge of Estonian literature of the periood;
- is familiar with the most important authors, trends and literary works;
- is able to relate them to literary canon and context.
