Course aims
A main subject for the Film Editing speciality, which gives students an introduction to the theory of editing, basic knowledge about film and video editing technologies and the ability to put acquired knowledge into practice.
Brief description of the course
The course consists of speciality seminars on various elements of an editory's work, performing practical exercises, viewing film exceprts as well as joint analysis of exercises and film excerpts in the classroom. During the course, the student acquires the theoretical rules of editing dialogue and action and implements them in practical editing exercises. The student analyses the dramatic structure of film and scenes using the methods of Syd Field and Frank Daniel.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has ability to tell a complete story through editing;
- has basic knowledge about the main theories of and historical approaches to film editing;
- has basic knowledge about the role of editing in the process of film production, and professional terminology and concepts;
- understands of the dramatic structure of a film as a whole.
