Course aims
To understand the leading issues in the history and civic didactics,to develop skills in organizing the learning process in basic and upper secondary schools. Be prepared to work in different learning environments and use goal-oriented teaching methods.
Brief description of the course
Get to know with methods suitable for teaching history and civics, testing, analyzing and self-planning: to start a new topic / to identify learner's knowledge; to develop skills: source analysis (statistics, history map, document, picture, cartoon, etc.), seminar, discussion, project, different group work methods, case analysis, empathy tasks, text (directed) reading tasks, summary tables, generalizing tasks and games, creative tasks, tasks using ICT and other active learning methods. Organizing teaching outside the classroom, for example, in a museum, archives or during study trip. Design lessons using the learning environments and methods.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has the competence to choose suitable methods for planning and managing the learning process, to design a learning environment, to guide learners' learning and to support learning motivation and to provide reasoned feedback to learners;
- is aware of his ethical aspects, opportunities and constraints as a teacher of history and civics, as well as his/her social role.
