Course aims
Political and economic history of Estonia from 1550-1917
Brief description of the course
Estonian political and economic history in 1550-1800. Northern War and Russian rule. Administrative division, provincial government, classes in the Baltic region. Legal order and system of courts. Population, agrarian conditions, trade and industry. Estonia in 1801-1917. Peasant reforms at the beginning of the 19th century. Enlighteners and estophiles during the 1st half of the 19th century. Estonian social and economic development during the 2nd quarter of the 19th century. National awakening and national movement growth in 1857-1883. Modernising Estonia. Russification reforms in the 1880-1890’s. New national movement increase. First Russian Revolution and First World War.
