Brief description of the course
An overview of Estonian prehistory from the first inhabitants to the conquest in the 13th century. Prehistory will be considered by periods, concentrating on changes through time and the development of the society. An overview of different artefacts and their types characteristic to different periods, changes in agriculture, society and ideology will be provided. Also the history of Estonian archaeology and the development of theoretical thought and ways of consideration in last 200 years will be presented, archaeological interpretations and their connections to politics. Although the course includes Estonian prehistory as a whole, the main stress will be on the last periods of it.
