Course aims
To create the prerequisites for acquiring theoretical perspectives, practical skills, and methodological recommendations in the fields of general physical preparation and recreational physical activity, with a focus on the needs of different target groups, the development of exercise habits, and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle.
Brief description of the course
The role of motor competence, physical activity, and recreational exercise at both societal and individual levels. Participants will acquire foundational knowledge on the effects of physical activity on the body, methods for evaluating its impact on health and work capacity, and the characteristics of key target groups (youth, adults, seniors, individuals with special needs, and those with chronic conditions). Principles for selecting suitable forms and activities of recreational exercise for these groups will also be addressed.
Additional topics include factors influencing physical activity (behavioral aspects, attitudes, beliefs) and the development of exercise habits, determining optimal exercise load, and assessing its effects.
Through theoretical insights and practical activities, participants will gain an overview of the types and components of general physical preparation, training parameters, and progression models. The course covers optimizing training volumes and intensities for different levels of recreational activity and target groups.
Participants will also acquire skills in the methodology for developing strength-related abilities, including exercises for lower body (knee and hip-dominant movements), upper body (pushing and pulling patterns), core stability, dynamic rotational movements, triple extension exercises, plyometrics, power, and agility.
Practical activities will focus on the methodological specifics and safe fundamental techniques of endurance-based outdoor activities such as Nordic walking, health walking, jogging, roller skating, and more. Participants will explore suitable locations and conditions for exercise.
To successfully complete the course, participants will independently design a web-based, evidence-informed, case-specific health-oriented exercise plan that supports motor competence and the development of recreational physical activity, providing arguments based on scientific literature.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- presents foundational theoretical knowledge on motor competence and recreational physical activity, including their effects on health;
- explains the negative impact of physical inactivity on the body;
- describes principles and methodological foundations for selecting suitable forms of physical activity and general fitness training for different target groups;
- clarifies factors influencing recreational physical activity, strategies for habit formation, and specifics of determining optimal training loads for target groups;
- analyzes the suitability of general fitness training to support recreational physical activities and evaluates the appropriateness of various exercise forms for developing exercise habits;
- applies general fitness exercise techniques and the fundamental techniques of other forms of physical activity in a safe manner;
- considers the training environment and conditions when performing different forms of physical activity;
- plans and develops an individualized health-oriented exercise plan that supports the development of motor competence and recreational physical activity habits.
