Course aims
To form basic knowledge on the history of Russian studies, development of tradition for the Russian language research. To present basic works and ideas by famous Russian researchers, as well as the most important academic resources (grammar books, dictionaries, etc.)
Brief description of the course
The course is based on the work ideas by classic and modern Russian studies researchers. Grammar and lexicography famous works are to be presented. At the same time there are dealt different theoretical research in the field of Russian studies. They are to be observed in the historical perspective, as well as from the modern studies point of view. There are also to be found connections to the world linguistics. Students are to get acquainted to the Academic Grammar of Russian, the most important academic dictionaries.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Knows the main trends of Russian studies and ideas both in historical perspective and from the modern standpoint;
Is able to orient in the main trends of Russian studies and in the literature devoted to the matter;
Is able to analyze and evaluate Russian language facts using the most important achievements by the Russian studies, e.g. academic recourses (grammar books, dictionaries, linguistic research books).
