Course aims

To create the necessary prerequisites for acquirement of basic Bulgarian. Students know basic Bulgarian: pronunciation and grammar, orthography and orthoepy, lexical minimum for communication in Bulgarian (oral and written).

Brief description of the course

Bulgaria as a one of Slavonic languages. Phonetic structure of Bulgarian language, rules of ortography and orthoepy. The main principles of word-formation and methods of using dictionaries. Basic lexicology. Vocabulary mastering through the written texts and dialogues. Development of speaking skills. Words declension and conjugation. System of tenses. Direct and indirect speech. Modes.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- can write and read grammatically correctly on the important sociocultural topics in Bulgarian language;
- knows main principles of modern Bulgarian phonetics, lexicology, morphology and syntax;
- gets language qualification A1.
