Course aims

The aim of the course is to give an overview of the main influential factors of international economic policy: production, globalisation of finance and trade as well as their involving developments in the world economy.

Brief description of the course

Analytical frame of reference: different discourses. Development of economy and trade. International finance, international investments. Periods of development of international economy. From Bretton Woods system until modern financial architecture. World Bank and IMF. Overglobalisation. Opposition between the North and South. Asian development model: is it the only possibility to evolve? Blockage in economy: the European Union. Asian currency crisis and its impact. Protection of domestic market, genesis of regional blocs, international multinationals, nation state in the world economy, environmental issues, hegemony, public international interests, transitional countries and economic reform.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
Knowledge of the principals of functioning of international political economy.
