Course aims
This course is designed to provide students with a general overview of Estonian society, its structure and basic developments over the past twenty years.
Brief description of the course
The course consists of introductory lectures, seminars and individual work. The first lectures deal with the historical roots of contemporary Estonian society and also with some methodological questions concerning the description of the society. A short overview will be given about the developments in the 20th century, with special attention on the consequences of the Soviet rule on the Estonian society. The concept of „transition society” will be explained. A broad scope of topics will be discussed on seminars. Students should do a presentation as a group or as an individual work.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has an overview of the developments, trends and recent issues of Estonian society in the past twenty years.
